Vice Chancellor of Rabindra University, Bangladesh, which is established in the name of the poet Rabindranath Tagore in Shahjadpur, Sirajganj, laid a wreath at the Shaheed Minar of Shahjadpur at the first hour of 21st February. Vice-Chancellor professor Dr. Md. Shah Azam has said that today is Martyr Day and also International Mother Language Day and it is a very important day in our national life. Ever since the establishment of the state of Pakistan in 1947, the ruling group in the western region planned to subjugate the majority Bengalis in the eastern region. As part of this, first they wanted to make Bengalis forget their cultural heritage. Their aim was to cripple Bengali ethnicity by taking away their mother tongue. But Bengalis protested against it. The movement to establish Bangla as the national language began. Rabindra University organized a discussion meeting and cultural evening at Rabindra Kanchari House as part of the day long events of 21st February.
